Office plants

Your new colleague is green, sociable and doesn't care that you are scrolling on TikTok again while ignoring your boss's emails. Oops.

We do have an idea what your ideal colleague looks like. It is green, easy to handle, provides extra oxygen and improves concentration. Yes, the ideal colleague is a fresh, green office plant. It brightens up the environment and the best thing about this new colleague is that it doesn't talk or judges when you are once again putting off work to scroll on social media. Wonderful right?

Office plants

We do have an idea what your ideal colleague looks like. It is green, easy to handle, provides extra oxygen and improves concentration. Yes, the ideal colleague is a fresh, green office plant. It brightens up the environment and the best thing about this new colleague is that it doesn't talk or judges when you are once again putting off work to scroll on social media. Wonderful right?

Ficus Robusta

Better known as the rubber fig, this beautiful plant with shiny, dark green leaves looks great in your office. Ficus Robusta likes a nice light spot in the sun. In summer, Ficus needs water twice a week and only once in winter. So you don't have to care for the plant intensively. You had better keep your colleagues away from it, though, because the plant is poisonous if consumed.

Aspidistra

In the wild, this plant grows mainly as a ground cover, but this info is of no use to you at all unless your office is a greenhouse. What might interest you: this plant hardly needs any attention. Sunny or dark? Both are fine. A glass of water from every colleague in the office or suddenly no water at all because everyone is on holiday? Fine. The Aspidistra is a low-maintenance plant and thus perfect for wannabe plant moms and dads with a lack of a green thumb. Plus, it looks great in your office space.

Sansevieria Zeylanica

A Sansieveria fits perfectly on your desk. Incidentally, the plant requires little attention and is therefore perfect for anyone lacking a green thumb. You will make the Sansevieria happy with a spot in semi-shade and a little water every few weeks.

Besides the features we list above, a good office plant should have some other important characteristics.

  • Take a beating: the office plant can take quite a beating. One week it will receive a lot of attention and water from colleagues, perhaps to the point of almost drowning. The other week, perhaps no one will look after it at all because of deadlines or holiday periods. So this new office buddy had better be able to take a beating.

  • Nice look: we want a beautiful, green and lively plant that brightens up the place. So it should have a nice shape, colour or pattern.
